Unlike other Dragon Ball fan projects, Hyper Dragon Ball Z doesn't use sprites from commercial video games.
The game is created by Team Z2 consisting of many ultra-talented people who develop the game in their free time. Don't just yadda yadda your way past them being super duper powerful but causing no collateral damage to the terrain. Hyper Dragon Ball Z is a classic fighting game designed in the style of Capcom titles from the 90s. If you're going to elevate your characters to a point where they can tango with being able to destroy planets or universes have there be actual consequences for them being that powerful and actually fighting with all they have. Now, I'm fairly happy accepting this explanation for how someone like Frieza (who survived a planet exploding in his face while being cut in half and having half his face missing) can be killed by Super Saiyan Blue Goku's kamehameha (which didn't even leave a crater iirc) in Super but it's still a fucking ridiculous explanation for a poor choice on Toriyama and Toei's part.ĭamn stupid.
That said, somewhere along the lines it's also been used as an explanation for how Goku and friends can fire off attacks that should be capable of destroying planets or even solar systems while doing little to no damage to the planet the fighters are battling on.
